Jamal

Jamal is a thoughtful and inquisitive artist whose work often combines figures with richly layered surroundings. His characters, sometimes inspired by his love of history and the Vikings - “their helmets, their weapons, and how they travel by ship” - are drawn with graphic clarity and set against colourful environments that evoke earth, rock, and sediment. “My ideas come from poetry… I see images from reading poetry,” he explains. He gravitates toward warm and earthy yellows, oranges, and browns - “they make me happy!” - and draws inspiration from dreams, imagination, and his friends at Artbox.

“Art keeps me focused… if I have any concerns I focus on my art and I feel relaxed,” making his practice both expressive and grounding.
