Richard Bateman

Richard’s art reflects his sweet and gentle nature. Working entirely from memory and imagination, his pieces feel like jewels - windows into an interior world. “It is about holidays,” he explains, recalling cruises with his father to Mexico, Spain, Rome, Switzerland, and Italy. His trees, boats, buildings, flowerbeds, and skies are ordered, balanced, and serene, built up delicately and skillfully in pastels, gouache, pencil and ink.
Richard gets confidence, purpose, and a deep sense of pride from exhibiting his work,: “At the exhibition Prince Philip said ‘you are the best artist in the world. Keep up your painting Richard!’” Grinning, he recalls selling “the lot of it… for a million pounds.”
