Roland

Roland is an upbeat studio member, always checking in with his peers and lifting the energy of the room, before locking in to his work. His art is inventive and perceptive, spanning collage, painting, and drawing. In his collage work, such as in the piece displayed here, fragments of architecture are layered into dense, rhythmic grids, suggestive of cityscapes, dreams, or patterns of memory. His paintings and drawings reveal a more personal and imaginative side: silhouetted portraits filled with colour and text, vibrant still lifes, and quietly uncanny scenes of figures in patterned garments. Across all media, Roland’s work balances structure with enigma, capturing the familiar while opening it to new and surprising interpretations.
