Violet
For Violet, making art is endlessly therapeutic. Whether she is plastering cardboard with broad streams of paint, or carefully applying twirls of string in collage, she is always completely in the zone.
Violet joined the studio in a period of grieving and has found the group a true outlet. ‘My mum died…’ she tells us, ‘sorry, it’s pretty upsetting. That’s why I come [to Artbox], it helps me express how I am feeling.’
She describes her work as a barometer of her emotions. When her mother died, her art darkened in reflection. She has moved forward since then, “now I’ve come out of the grief and I am more bright colours. I still use the black but I make sure it’s got bright colours in it as well. That’s me. That’s how I express myself.”
Violet also supports other artists during their sessions and co-facilitates corporate and external workshops with Artbox. These workshops support Artbox’s aim to empower artists with learning differences and to reach wider audiences and increase positive attitudes towards the talents and abilities of people with learning differences and autism.
