Ahmar’s pictures are bold, immediate, and confidently stylised, and mostly depict his favourite celebrities - Snoop Dogg, Michael Jackson or Arsenal footballers. His process is immersive and highly sensory: he relishes and responds to the feel of each material, from fluid acrylics to the drag of pencil, pen, or pastel. Drawing is always the starting point, outlining facial features in looping, swooping, densely interconnected lines, before filling the surface with vibrant planes of washy colour. Features are abstracted but striking: eyes, ears, eyebrows, hair, teeth, glasses, moustaches - emerging from a gestural swirl that feels both quick and energetic, yet specific and deliberate. Ahmar’s portraits vibrate with movement, humour, and affection. Each face is filtered through his unique visual logic - playful, powerful, and unmistakably his.
